When talking about Thoughtful Development, I’m talking about development that supports long-term economic, social, cultural, and environmental well-being. I want development that enhances our vibrancy, celebrates our uniqueness, and capitalizes on our existing strengths.
In Kimberley, many of us can walk to a unique business or access a bustling public space as quickly as we can walk to the forest or a creek. We talk to our neighbours; strangers stop to help each other – so many things make our community special and distinct. These blessings are ones we all want to see preserved.
Our high quality of life depends on our assets being recognized and cared for, and they are abundant. Our trails, streets, paths, trees, water management, local businesses, arts, public, natural and recreational spaces are just some of the many assets Kimberley is teeming with. Like our residents and the vibrant social connections we enjoy, our assets require ongoing investment and careful consideration for long and short-term longevity.
A cohesive vision and policies are essential for guiding decisions on how we will develop and strengthen these qualities over time. We have an excellent foundation in our Official Community Plan and numerous detailed reports with considerations for ongoing asset management. The 2021 Housing Needs Assessment, 2019 Non-Residential Gap Analysis, 2021 Active Transportation Plan, 2020 Childcare Needs Assessment, and the 2024 Parks & Facilities Master Plan are just some of the many resources Kimberley can draw upon to implement positive forward momentum.
My vision of Thoughtful Development is a holistic approach to our community evolution that puts long-term sustainability at the forefront of decision making for our planning, policies, and regulations. For Kimberley to continue to grow as an energetic and effervescent community, Thoughtful Development must be at the forefront of how we move forward.
Hi Diana, I have been very impressed with your candidacy for city Council. I’ve been a resident of Townsite for 22 years and my family have since the 50’s. My main concern is the Lois Creek development. At first it was going to be 16 Condos and now the latest plan is 66 huge million dollar houses. I read you were about stainable development so please tell me your thought on this? I understand we need more affordable housing in Kimberley and I do see progress towards this in town. I am just very concerned about my quiet street and have issues like no side walks for kids, one way out of Townsite, the locals not having a voice and already our water pressure has dropped since 2 duplexes were built up the street. I will vote for someone who can stand up to our major and question development at all costs. Thank you Diana
Thank you for your comment Dawneen! Safe streets and enabling active transportation is important to me, and something I would like to see prioritized! I am not familiar with all the specifics of the Lois Creek Development so I don’t want to be too speculative in my response, however I will say that developments with large single family homes do not feel like something we should be prioritizing. I share in your concerns about more cars on the road and impacts on our infrastructure, and if elected I will advocate for development that are in the best interest of all of our residents in the long term.
